PEMBROKE, N.H. - Precision Technology Inc., a company that provides printing and other services for the direct mail industry, has abruptly closed its Pembroke plant, locking out 131 workers.

Labor commissioner George Copadis got the workers’ paychecks from inside the plant and distributed them to about 60 workers there yesterday. Copadis said the remaining workers can arrange with the Labor Department to claim the checks in person or have them mailed. He said they should call if the checks bounce.

Copadis said the state’s rapid response team will hold sessions today at Concord’s unemployment office at 9, 10, and 11 a.m. to help the workers.

Copadis said the closure may be in violation of the federal plant closing law that requires 60 days notice. A stronger state law doesn’t take effect until Jan. 1.
