Scrushy’s cars fetch over $800,000
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - HealthSouth Corp. founder Richard Scrushy’s fleet of cars has been sold at auction, bringing in more than $800,000.
Yesterday’s auction proceeds will go toward paying off a $2.9 billion verdict in a shareholder lawsuit over accounting fraud at the health care rehabilitation chain.
About 800 people registered to bid and more than 1,000 showed up to watch as the 19 cars were auctioned off at a Birmingham wrecker company lot.
The bestseller was a 1929 Cadillac with only 3,400 miles on it. It sold for $172,500.
Scrushy was not in the crowd:
He is serving time in a federal prison, convicted of bribery in an unrelated case.![]()
