Owners of the 500-unit Castle Square housing project in the South End plan to rehabilitate apartments throughout the complex and build a new community center.
Winn Development and the Castle Square tenants association said they will form a joint venture to do the work, which will include renovating kitchens and bathrooms and installing energy-efficient appliances.
The complex was built in the 1960s between Tremont Street and Shawmut Avenue. In the 1990s, the tenants association became part owner and has helped to upgrade facilities during the past several years.
The tenants and Winn asked the Boston Redevelopment Authority to expedite its review of the project so work can begin in coming months.![]()
