The consumer products giant Procter & Gamble Co. said it is centralizing some research-and-development facilities, and one result is that a Needham facility will be closed in 2012.

Its 105 employees will be transferred to other P&G facilities in locations such as South Boston; Bethel, Conn.; Ohio; and Germany, P&G said.

Ohio-based Procter & Gamble acquired Gillette Co. in 2005, and it recently unveiled a $50 million renovation and expansion of Gillette’s World Shaving Headquarters in South Boston. The “vast majority’’ of the Needham employees will be transferred to South Boston, a spokesman said.

No layoffs are contemplated among the Needham workers, he said. P&G’s plans are designed to move R&D operations closer to the businesses they support.

Of the Needham jobs, 12 will transferred to Kronberg, Germany, a news release said. The moves will start next year and be completed by June 2012.
