Gifts any mom would love
Forget the potted plant and card, these techie treasures will serve as reminders that mothers are hip, and very cool
After all the things your mom has done for you, don’t you think it’s time to put a little more thought into this year’s Mother’s Day shopping than another potted plant and a greeting card with a sappy poem on it?
Instead of the usual, the Globe found five techie gifts that are useful and serve as a reminder that your mom is hip and cool — even if she does crank Celine Dion songs on her iPod.
You know how she’s always concerned about germs and making sure you wash your hands before every meal? Time to return the nagging — err — favor.
She’ll get a kick out of the iSkin Microban iPhone and iPod case ($24.99 to $34.99 at the Apple Store). It’s antimicrobial and prevents the growth of germs and bacteria and can be washed with soap and water.
While we’re on the topic, she’ll also love this iHome iP39 Stainless Steel iPod/iPhone dock ($99.99). It has a built-in kitchen timer, so mom can listen to her favorite tunes while waiting for her delicious apple pies to finish baking.
The odds are that your mom has a digital camera. She probably got one for Christmas, because the big-box retailers stocked hundreds of them, and they were dirt cheap. So give her a stylish method to display her new snapshots.
The CEIVA Pro 80 digital picture frame ($147.99), will let your mother show off all her pictures. It comes with the “Dazzle Crystal Kit’’ of Swarovski crystals she can use to decorate the frame any way she likes.
Another handy gadget is the Skybar Wine Traveler ($19.99). It’s insulated and keeps chilled bottles of wine at the perfect temperature. The convenient carrying handle makes it easy to lug around to parties and cookouts.
Finally, the T3 Giftset ($200) will let your mom doll up her hair with the best of them. It comes with the featherweight T3 hair dryer with brushes, sectioning clips, and conditioner. The T3 is high efficiency. It uses very little energy, and its ionic infrared heat will dry her hair 60 percent faster than a normal dryer.
These are all products that debuted this season. Your mom will appreciate the effort.
