BEDFORD — Communications equipment company Acme Packet Inc. said yesterday independent director Michael Thurk resigned for personal reasons.

The departure left the company’s board out of compliance with Nasdaq listing rules that require a majority of directors be independent.

Acme Packet said it expects to meet the March 8 deadline for regaining compliance.

Thurk, 57, was a board member since October 2008, and was reelected at the company’s annual meeting in May. A managing partner for Mariposa Consulting LLC, he was previously chief operating officer of Avaya Inc.

Shares of Acme Packet gained 18 cents to $36.24 in aftermarket electronic trading after closing the regular session down 28 cents at $36.06.
