Wegmans, the New York grocery chain, is planning to build a 140,000-square-foot supermarket near the Burlington Mall by the spring of 2013. It will be the second store in Massachusetts for Wegmans, which is opening its first one in Northborough this fall.

The company is proposing to demolish several buildings in a large office park complex on Third Avenue to make way for the store, which will feature a 15,000-square-foot food court, according to Bill Congdon, Wegmans’ New England division manager.

The company expects to hire 650 people to staff the store, including about 450 part-time positions. “We’re looking forward to growing in this area,’’ Congdon said. “It looks like a great market to us.’’
