Zipcar wheeling into Providence
Zipcar Inc., the Cambridge-based car-sharing service, said yesterday that it is expanding into Providence.
Zipcar has a focus on urban markets and college campuses. Its vehicle-sharing network currently includes more than 575,000 members. Members have access to a fleet of roughly 8,000 vehicles deployed in markets throughout the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Zipcar became a public company in April with an initial public offering of stock. Shares soared in the first day of trading even though some Wall Street analysts expressed doubts because the on-demand car service hadn’t turned a profit since it was founded in 2000.![]()
