As the official holiday shopping period kicks into full gear, shops and other businesses in Somerville and Cambridge have lost a major artery every weekend - the Red Line. Since last month the T has shuttered service between Harvard Square and Alewife to conduct track maintenance on the weekend. Riders now board shuttle buses between those stops. With most sales occurring in the last six weeks of the year, some owners say the shutdown is hurting business.
