MAPUTO, Mozambique—Mozambique's labor ministry says it is expelling 60 Chinese nationals for working illegally in the southern African nation.
Officials said in a statement Friday the Chinese laborers were working for a construction firm in and around the capital without permits. The firm is partly owned by Chinese investors.
Chinese-run shops and businesses have mushroomed in southern Africa amid claims their nationals work for less than local pay rates.
The labor ministry said local laws forbid foreigners doing jobs that could go to either skilled or unskilled Mozambicans.![]()
