China looks to boost Internet limits on microblogs

SHANGHAI—China has issued draft guidelines for extending controls over Internet service providers to include the country's microblogs and other web forums.
A list of proposed changes to Beijing's Internet law released by the Cabinet on Thursday includes blogs, Twitter-like microblogs and online forums.
It would require companies providing such services to be licensed and to guarantee that those using them be registered with their real identities.
China's Internet companies have been pressured to control information or risk losing the right to operate profitable businesses in a fast-growing market. Late last month, the microblogging site Sina Weibo introduced new rules that could see users banned for posting about sensitive political topics.
