Greener electronics
Source: Wired News
Device makers are retooling and tweaking designs to meet a July 1st deadline aimed at reducing toxic materials in electronic gear. New European environmental rules require that electronics makers limit the use of brominated flame retardants and cut the use of lead, mercury, cadmium and hexavalent chromium. The regulations will have a global impact, since companies will not create two versions of their products. Props to Europe for calling the shots on environmental standards. California is not far behind.
