The new bestsellers
Source: BoingBoing
In the 1960s fewer than three novels reached #1 on the New York Times hardcover Bestseller's list, but they stayed there an average of 22 weeks. Today? Reverse it. Last year 23 books made the bestseller's list, but their staying power was barely two weeks. These numbers are from a new study by print-on-demand publisher Lulu.com. Without current technology that allows small press runs to be cost-effective, Amazon couldn't sell millions of different titles and Lulu.com wouldn't even exist.
