Get out of the IT business

NickCarr.jpgNicholas Carr reacts to recent comments from ZDNet's David Berlind, agreeing that "big companies, with lots of capital and lots of legacy systems, may be able to justify building their own internal IT utilities...but the equation's very different for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMBs)." Instead of buying servers and the labor, maintenance, and other costs that go with them, SMBs should be buying IT (storage, serving) as a service. "Sure, there'll be plenty of exceptions, but that should be the going-in assumption. If IT isn't your business, get out of the IT business."
