Mass. IT nightmare

gutierrez.jpgWhy did Louis Gutierrez just resign as the Massachusetts Chief Information Officer? Because the state won't pay for IT. This summer the Legislature failed to pass a $250 million IT bond bill which resulted in the lay off of 27 state IT contractors and stop-work orders for over 30 state tech projects…like upgrading Medicaid and tax systems, integrating criminal justice systems, security upgrades, etc.

"I am presiding over the dismantling of an IT investment program - over a decade in the evolution - that the legislative leadership appears unwilling to salvage at this time."

Ask any business what happens if you don't fund IT. Let's face it, being the CIO of Massachusetts is a lousy job. Just ask Peter Quinn.
