Ruth Sherman says that showing gratitude isn't just a key interpersonal skill and something to remember at Thanksgiving, it's also a leadership skill. But saying thank you to colleagues and customers in email, text or IM means the message gets buried in the noise of everyday communiqués. Not to mention it's impersonal. But she's "pleased to report there is a better way: A handwritten thank you note." It's personal, thoughtful and meaningful. She suggests sending handwritten thank you notes to clients at Thanksgiving instead of sending Christmas cards. Um. I'm having trouble remembering when I last wrote a note by hand.
