A window display commemorates Filene's Basement 100th anniversary celebration.

However, the fate of its flagship store remains uncertain as the Filene's site at Downtown Crossing remains a big hole in the ground thanks to stalled construction.

The chain has also had a change of ownership this year. Discounter Syms won an auction for the Filene's Basement name and inventory. Included in the deal were 23 stores, including the site of the Boston flagship.
