There has been controversy surrounding the idea of a convention center expansion but a state panel recently approved a $2 billion plan to increase the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center's meeting space, and add a headquarters hotel next door.
The BCEC, which opened in 2004, has now become a destination for some of the state's larger conventions. Click through to see a brief history of the relatively new center.
