The enormous foyer gives way to a 5-foot-wide staircase with elegant landings on each floor that give the entire house an airy feel. Wanzenberg hired an artisan to hand-polish the original walnut paneling, which was book-matched to align the grains, and ordered new door hinges machined in Germany, to move heavy doors with one finger.
