Dunkin' Donuts plans to rapidly expand to nearly 15,000 US locations by 2020, up from about 5,000 today. Two-thirds of the new stores will resemble a prototype store the company opened in Pawtucket, R.I. last November.

The first Dunkin Donuts opened in Quincy, Mass. in 1950.
