Top 10 fantasy freaks and gaming geeks

Ethan Gilsdorf is no stranger to the fantasy world. He spent his teens reading swords-and-sorcery novels, painting miniature goblins, and collecting polyhedral dice. Now, 25 years later, has has written a book - ' Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks ' (and by 'gaming,' he doesn't mean Texas hold 'em, he means Dungeons & Dragons) - to unearth the root of his attraction to tales of magical powers and heroic deeds. Gilsdorf has created the following list of fantasy and gaming's all-time heroes for Boston.com, many of which are featured in Fantasy Freaks and Gaming Geeks. He is also hosting a talk about his book , now out in paperback, on Wed., Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. at the Boston Public Library.
