Tremont Street, seen here in 1978 looking south near the Granary Burying Ground, was another early thoroughfare in downtown Boston, intersecting the beginning of Beacon Street and heading southward.
Besides its prime location passing by Boston Common, Tremont Street has also been known for theaters lining some of its blocks. More recently, its stretches through the South End have become notable for radical renovations of brownstone homes.
