President Obama promised Massachusetts about $40 million to preserve police jobs and prevent other law enforcement cuts on March 6. The money is expected to save the jobs of 55 uniformed officers in Boston alone. Since financial deficits are deeper than the stimulus will cover, however, police departments across the state probably will see cutbacks.
