There is a common misconception that this powdered orange drink was created by NASA as an all-inclusive energy, nutrition, and soft drink for astronauts. In reality, it was created by General Foods in 1957. It did, however, get a retro boost when veteran astronaut John Glenn requested it for his 1998 return to space.
