Top 10 scams of 2011
Identify it: The secret shopper scheme repackages stolen goods, typically electronics. Scammers ask victims to pay for the initial shipping charges and the victims are told they will be reimbursed and compensated with a check. This check bounces, and then the consumer is liable for the charges and the cost of the goods purchased online with stolen credit cards.
Avoid it: If a company asks you to pay an initial fee before you can make "the big bucks," it is very likely that the job isn't legitimate. Do not provide credit card numbers or bank information for direct deposit of their "paychecks."
