Fifteen former executives at HealthSouth Corp., once the largest US operator of rehabilitation hospitals, pleaded guilty in 2004 to securities fraud charges after it was found that the company overstated its earnings by $2.5 billion. Former CEO Richard Scrushy was acquitted, but was convicted of bribery for arranging $500,000 in donations to former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman in exchange for a seat on a state hospital regulatory board.(Bloomberg)
