A week after he resigned, editor returns to PC World

A week after he resigned as editor in chief of PC World magazine, Harry McCracken has returned to the job.

Meanwhile, the magazine's chief executive, Colin Crawford, whose decision to kill an article critical of Apple Inc. led to McCracken's resignation, has left his post as CEO of PC World and its sister publication, Macworld.

Crawford will return to his previous assignment as senior vice president for online activities at International Data Group, the Boston company that owns PC World.

McCracken resigned after Crawford refused to run an article titled "10 Things We Hate About Apple." McCracken told colleagues that Crawford had rejected the article because he feared a loss of advertising revenue from Apple. Crawford denied this, but has since apologized for spiking the article, which is now posted on the PC World website.

"Colin has his previous job back, and Harry has his previous job back, and we're in a search to find a new CEO for PC World and Macworld," said IDG spokesman Howard Sholkin. "Hopefully, now that people have gone back to what their jobs were, we can move on."
