Telecom

Surging demand for Internet video and voice-over-Internet-protocol services made 2006 a good year for makers of telecom-related products and services. As usual, Akamai Technologies delivered; the company's worldwide network of content-delivery servers was busier than ever. The continuing move to Internet telephone services was good news for international voice carriers. Long-suffering 3Com got a boost when it took complete control of a promising joint venture in China, a nation with a nearly insatiable demand for telecom gear.
