Moguls on moguls

Forget the elevator pitch. If you want some quality time with Boston bigwigs, hop on a ski lift at Beaver Creek Resort in Colorado.

At Beaver Creek, the cuisine runs from seafood to French, shops sell fine linens and antiques, and the Allegria Spa features 20 feng shui-inspired treatment rooms.

Oh, and the skiing isn't bad either.

Nestled in the Rockies two hours west of Denver, Beaver Creek has carved out a niche hosting corporate getaways, drawing visits from Massachusetts firms not put off by lift-ticket rates that start at $85 a day.

A ski-racing database shows visits by some of the Boston area's biggest-name executives to the Beaver Creek slopes, including Genzyme Corp. chief executive Henri Termeer, Fidelity Investments vice chairwoman Abigail Johnson, and Celtics managing partner Wyc Grousbeck.

While the resort boasts its share of expert runs, "You're not going to find the skiing is real hard-core," says former Red Sox co-owner Les Otten, an investor in other resorts. On the other hand, Genzyme chief legal officer Peter Wirth touts the resort's family atmosphere. "The ambience is terrific," he says. "They feed you chocolate chip cookies in the lift line."
