Top medical device companies

The big guys on the block, Thermo Fisher and Boston Scientific, digested their big 2006 acquisitions of Fisher Scientific and Guidant Corp., respectively, while PerkinElmer made several smaller purchases, most notably the Cambridge-based biotechnology firm ViaCell. Hologic of Bedford, which makes X-ray and mammography equipment, spent $6.1 billion to acquire Cytyc Corp. of Marlborough, which makes products to screen for cervical cancer, to form a powerhouse of women's health products. Ranked by revenue in 2007.
