The Bloomberg Telecommunications index was down 2.1 percent for 2007, its first down year since 2002. Revenue surged at Akamai, which monitors Internet traffic and helps deliver content and streaming audio and video. Novell and 3Com, titans of an earlier boom, posted losses as they continued their turnround struggles. Ranked by revenue in 2007.
