Top Massachusetts consumer product companies

The economic downturn had a big impact on retailers and other consumer companies in 2008. Office retail giant Staples, as well as discounters TJX Cos. and BJ's Wholesale Club, posted revenue gains in 2008, as shoppers continued to turn to stores offering lower prices. In recent months, Talbots, which had the fourth-highest revenue among consumer companies, posted large losses for 2008 and announced cost-cutting measures. Companies ranked by revenue in 2008.
