2009 Globe 100

Top Massachusetts financial services companies

Massachusetts was hard-hit by the meltdown of the financial industry and the economic downturn, with Sovereign Bank, Citizens Financial Group, and Bank of America among the firms to announce significant job cuts. State Street Corp., which ranked second on the entire Globe 100 list, slashed 2,200 jobs in the past year. Several Massachusetts banks have announced intentions, however, to return federal funds they received under the $700 billion bailout package. Companies ranked by revenue in 2008.
