The Boston Shriners Hospital is one of 22 Shriners Hospitals throughout North America. Shriners Hospitals, started by the Shrine in 1922, provide care for severely burned or deformed children at no cost to the patient, their family, or third party.

The Boston hospital is one of three Shriners Hospitals dedicated to treating burn victims. Since the opening of the burn hospitals in the 1960s, a child's chance of surviving a severe burn has nearly doubled.
