NEW YORK—Shares of large pharmaceutical companies closed higher Friday, ending a week of mixed earning reports.

The American Stock Exchange's Pharmaceutical Index rose 2.94 points to 304.04. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 42.91 points to 12,891.86 while the technology heavy Nasdaq fell 5.99 points to 2,422.93. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 9.02 points to 1,397.84.

Here's how some key drug makers fared Friday:

Kenilworth, N.J.-based Schering-Plough up 52 cents, or 2.9 percent, to $18.64.

Madison, N.J.-based Wyeth up 41 cents to $44.97.

Whitehouse Station, N.J.-based Merck & Co. shares up 75 cents to $40.72.

New York-based Bristol-Myers Squibb Co., down 6 cents to $22.15.
