American Medical Systems affirms 2008 guidance

MINNEAPOLIS—Medical device maker American Medical Systems Holdings Inc. affirmed its full-year earnings outlook Tuesday, after reporting that first-quarter profit more than doubled.

The company continues to expect 2008 earnings per share between 57 cents and 72 cents, and revenue in the range of $500 million to $520 million.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial, on average, forecast 2008 earnings of 61 cents per share, on revenue of $509.6 million.

For the second quarter, American Medical Systems predicted earnings of 13 cents to 15 cents per share, on revenue of $123 million to $129 million.

Analysts forecast profit of 15 cents per share on revenue of $127.5 million.

American Medical Systems shares gained 15 cents to $14.70 in after-hours trading, after falling 13 cents to close the regular session at $14.55.
