WellPoint subsidiary receives Medicare contract

INDIANAPOLIS—Health insurer WellPoint Inc. on Monday said its National Government Services Inc. subsidiary received a contract from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services worth up to $323 million.

The unit will administer the Medicare Administrative Contract for a jurisdiction that includes New York and Connecticut.

It will perform Medicare administrative functions for its contracts with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and physicians, among other duties.

The contract includes one base year and four one-year options and is worth up to $323 million over five years.

Shares rose 76 cents to $52.11 during morning trading.
