NEW YORK—Shares of biotechnology companies traded lower Tuesday as the broader market fell on disappointing earnings reports from mortgage lender Fannie Mae, homebuilder D.R. Horton Inc. and Swiss bank UBS.

Gilead Sciences Inc., up 4 cents to $53.71.
Amgen Inc., down 22 cents to $42.57.
Biogen Idec Inc., down 40 cents to $62.61.
Genentech Inc., down 7 cents to $67.72.
