Gilead Sciences names Chief Executive Martin as chairman

FOSTER CITY, Calif.—Gilead Sciences Inc. on Wednesday said that Chief Executive Officer John C. Martin was named chairman of the biotechnology company's board of directors.

Martin takes over from James M. Denny, who has served as chairman since 2001. Denny will remain on the board as lead director.

Martin has been CEO since 1996.

Shares of Gilead fell 91 cents to close at $53.23. They earlier set a 52-week high of $54.42.
