LONDON—British Prime Minister Gordon Brown is appointing three top executives as new advisers on his national business council.

He says Andrew Witty, chief executive of drug developer GlaxoSmithKline PLC, BT Group PLC chief executive Ian Livingston and Paul Walsh, chief executive of drinks producer Diageo PLC, will join the panel.

The 18-strong advisory board offers Brown advice on business and economic matters.

Virgin Group chairman Richard Branson and Alan Sugar, star of British Broadcasting Corp.'s "The Apprentice" show, are also members of the group.

Brown was meeting with the panel Wednesday ahead of talks with U.S. Treasury chief Henry Paulson.
