BEDFORD - Hologic Inc. said its profit fell 33 percent in the fiscal third quarter as the economy hurt sales of its Selenia digital mammography system.
Profit decreased to $41 million, or 16 cents per share, from $61.4 million, or 24 cents per share, a year earlier. Excluding one-time items, the company said it earned 29 cents per share.
Revenue fell 6 percent, to $403.1 million.
The results beat analysts’ estimates, who expected 26 cents per share in profit and revenue of $394.7 million.
Hologic said hospitals cut back on purchases of equipment like Selenia systems, and were slower to make new orders.
