N.E. insurers rank high in US poll
A half-dozen New England health insurers weighed in among the top 10 commercial health plans nationally in a ranking set to be released today by U.S. News and World Report magazine and the National Committee for Quality Assurance, a nonprofit organization in Washington, D.C.
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of Wellesley, serving Massachusetts and Maine, was the top-ranked plan based on an analysis of prevention, treatment, and member satisfaction, including such criteria as how quickly patients receive care and how well a health care plan controls blood sugar in people with diabetes.
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care of New England, the insurer’s New Hampshire affiliate, ranked second, followed by Tufts Associated Health Maintenance Organization, which serves Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
Ranking seventh on the U.S. News list was Fallon Community Health Plan of Worcester.
Springfield’s Health New England, which serves Connecticut and Massachusetts, ranked eighth. And Cigna HealthCare of New Hampshire ranked ninth.![]()
