Carney Hospital gets new president
Caritas Christi Health Care, the Boston-based Catholic hospital system, has named Sister Marie Puleo as interim president of Caritas Carney Hospital in Dorchester. Puleo has most recently been senior vice president of mission for Caritas Christi, overseeing pastoral care at the chain’s six Catholic community hospitals in the region.
At Carney, Sister Puleo will succeed Dr. Daniel H. O’Leary, who resigned last Friday after serving as Carney’s president since February 2006.
Caritas Christi spokesman Chris Murphy said O’Leary, a radiologist, has been offered a position as chief of neuroradiology for Caritas Christi, but has not decided whether he will accept that job.
Some doctors affiliated with Carney were reportedly upset that O’Leary sent e-mails asking them to attend a fund-raiser for his brother, state Senator Robert O’Leary, who is running for Congress for the district that includes Cape Cod. Murphy, however, said, “Dan’s resignation was voluntary and not related to a fund-raising issue.’’
Cerberus Capital Management, a New York private equity firm, is in the process of buying Caritas in a $830 million deal that would make the state’s second-biggest hospital chain a for-profit operation.
