Key moments in Genzyme's history

Genzyme Corp., the largest biotechnology company in Massachusetts and one of the industry’s historic pioneers, has recently agreed to be bought by French pharmaceutical giant Sanofi-Aventis SA, in a deal valued at about $20.1 billion.
Genzyme has had a successful - and sometimes bumpy - history, including manufacturing problems at its Allston plant. Most recently, the company had to scrap a batch of its Fabrazyme drug because it did not meet industry standards for good manufacturing procedures.
