Key moments in Genzyme's history
2009 - Contamination halts drug production
After a virus is found in one of the bioreactors that make Cerezyme and Fabrazyme at Genzyme's Allston plant, the company is forced to halt production of the drugs as the site is cleaned up. The company eventually agrees to pay a $175 million federal fine and to remain under federal supervision for seven to eight years.
