Key moments in Genzyme's history
2010 - Sanofi offer rejected
In a terse letter to Sanofi chief executive Christopher A. Viehbacher (pictured), Henri Termeer wrote: "The Genzyme board is not prepared to engage in merger negotiations with Sanofi based upon an opportunistic proposal with an unrealistic starting price that dramatically undervalues our company."
Later, Termeer indicated that Genzyme could be sold, but not at the price of the initial Sanofi offer. "This is not a fixer-upper, this is beachfront property," Termeer told the Globe.
