Key moments in Genzyme's history
2000 - Creation of biosurgery division
Genzyme Biosurgery is created when Genzyme buys Biomatrix Inc. of New Jersey, a leader in viscoelastic biomaterials known for its treatment for knee arthritis.
Years later, the biosurgery division would be the subject of controversy after a Genzyme stock buy back plan angers investors who think the price is too low. After shareholders sue the company claiming the buyback plan was unfair and suspicious, Genzyme agrees to pay $4 million to settle the case in 2007.
