Not a group to leave well enough alone, they’re coming up with new gadgets—from high-tech masks to a wearable pillows to portable pods—meant to improve on the afternoon snooze, take it beyond the living room couch, and encourage even more people to nap.

These new napping gadgets are coming out as the ritual long enjoyed by retirees is gaining a new breed of converts, especially among tech startups where napping is not only accepted but encouraged.

In fact, sleep is getting an entire tech makeover. There are apps, smart watches, and intelligent alarm clocks that can monitor sleep patterns. Apple Inc. recently hired a sleep expert rumored to be working on the development of an iWatch.
