REEL Entrepreneurs

A new reality show show set in Massachusetts hopes to shed more light on local start-ups, sharing both the drama and the hard work that go into turning an idea into a booming business.

The show, Million Dollar $tartup, is scheduled to debut on NECN on May 12, according to Lisa Reilly, the show’s producer. However, the casting call is open now for entrepreneurs willing to open up about their work in exchange for a bit of extra publicity.

The show is being produced by REEL Entrepreneurs, which also produces the Hive’s The Innovators video series.

“We wanted to prove to the world that entrepeneurs do work hard,” she said. “But there will be drama in there.”

Applications for the casting call are due Thursday night, with first-round interviews scheduled for Saturday.

With recent Boston reality debuts like Wicked Single and Southie Rules, hopefully MD$ can share a slightly less stereotypical view of what happens in the Hub.

Update: Reilly wrote in with a clarification:

“REEL Entrepreneurs exclusively owns editorial content of Million Dollar $tartup and is planning on purchasing time from NECN for the Sunday night time slot. This is NOT an NECN owned or produced program.”
