Max Ash, 8, said his big idea came to him in an art class: Wouldn’t drinking cocoa be more fun if you could play basketball while doing it? MAX’IS Creations’ first product was soon born: An oversized mug with a mini hoop built into the handle.

Ash was one of the entrepreneurs who pitched at the Product Pitch event at Fenway the Hive helped host, and now, with the help of his family, he’s launching an Indiegogo campaign to help bring his product to market.

With 34 days left, the campaign has raised almost $2,000 of its $5,008 goal, with a reward of the mug going for $35.

One nice twist to the campaign is that in addition to helping launch a product, backers are helping a good cause.

Ash is dyslexic, and has decided to use the campaign to raise awareness and funds in addition to the early capital he needs: Depending on the backing level, the Indiegogo campaign will donate between $1 and $50 to the Waltham-based Carroll School, where Ash attends, for its dyslexic education research.
